EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

One of the main pillars on which the Geoparks work, is the promotion of research and education in Earth Sciences, and the management and conservation of geological and mining heritage.

To achieve these objectives, infrastructures are required in order to facilitate the work of researchers. For this reason la Manresa University Campus Library (BCUM) of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), as a result of a collaboration process started in 2011, hosts the Central Catalonia UNESCO Global Geopark Documentation and Research Centre.

In this space you can find documentary resources on geology, mining and the environment, both in terms of reference works and studies carried out in the territory. This fund is being updated with the incorporation of new references from academic studies and dissemination documents that are being carried out. It also incorporates references to other UNESCO Global Geoparks.

The documentation and research centre also has a cartography room with technical reference material, workspace and computers. Also custody of the AR Sandbox of the Geoparc.

The Scientific Council meets regularly to discuss issues affecting research and education in geology and mining, as well as the geoconservation of geological and mining heritage. It is chaired by Dr. Josep Maria Mata-Perelló.
